St Agnes Sunset

Welcome skywatchers! Ready for a glorious sunset? My first Skywatch Friday was such fun that I knew at last I’d have a chance to share one of my favourite views of all time, and here it is. This was taken from the camp site on St Agnes, a tiny island off the southwest coast of Britain. R and I holiday there most summers, staying in our little tent on a camp site that looks directly out onto the Atlantic, with seals and seabirds as our neighbours and the best sunsets I have ever seen anywhere, bar none. The crashing waves are our lullaby and I would sooner not go at all than swap this little piece of heaven for the comfort of a hotel.
This is the exact view that we get as we are cooking dinner. The ocean is studded with the silhouettes of jagged uninhabited islands, and far away on the horizon is the sweeping light of Bishop’s rock lighthouse. Seabirds call to one another as they fly to their roosts, and eventually, if the air is not too damp, the sky will be crammed with stars.
Look at skies from around the world with Skywatch Friday!
PS: To those of you using Blogger:- Some of you have your comment settings in such a way that I can’t come and say hi and thank you for your visits or tell you how fantastic your latest shot is; I don’t have a blogger or open ID account. I just wanted to say thank you for your kind comments as I don’t want you to think I’m being rude and ignoring you!

@Tootie:- Thank you! Tootie, I went to visit your blog and leave a comment but because of your comment settings I couldn’t – I don’t have a Blogger account or open ID. I thought I’d let you know here that I’m envious of where you live!
Love how the sunset lights seem to spiral from the horizon! Just gorgeous!
@Gemma:- Thank you Gemma, the light effects you get in the St Agnes sky are just incredible sometimes, this was quite a quiet moment! I’m hoping to share more St Agnes sunsets in coming Skywatch Fridays.
Gorgeous colors and beautiful picture!
Wonderful view of the sunset, most romantic.
This is one gorgeous image. Such spectacular colors and shapes, Have a wonderful Friday.
Holy cow Bird, this is simply the best! I’m a “contrasts” kind of gal and the silhouette of the tattered flag against the gorgeous sunset and deep blue sky is exceptional. This is the kind of beauty that I would hope to capture…so bold and uncomplicated!

What an amazing sunset.
The contrast with the dark foreground is beautiful.
Great choice. Thanks for sharing!
What a neat capture with the weed in the wind and the neat sky.
@Darla, @Becky:- Thank you! Welcome to my blog!
@Roadgurl5:-Thanks! Honestly though, when you are in a place like that getting a good picture really is like shooting fish in a barrel
@Afanja:-Cheers Afanja!
@Fishing Guy:- thank you for visiting and for hosting Skywatch too, it’s my new favourite thing!
Wonderful!
I am pining for a peaceful campout, and what a gorgeous spot you have there!
Is that a tattered flag? It immediately brought Tibetan prayer flags to my mind, which added a certain depth of meaning to an already inspirational shot.
Wow back, and I mean it! That is just stunning.
I took the sunset one last night in Hastings, South Coast of England. (Sorry if you already know where Hastings is!)
@Kit:- Oh Kit, how I wish I could be there right now (although it would probably be pretty chilly actually)
Yes it is a flag, someone camping in that spot before us made it out of scraps of tent canvas and a tent pole, it was really beautiful because it was so weatherbeaten and flew in the wind so well. I was so happy that we inherited it for a while, it reminded me of a prayer flag too
@Dancin fool:- oh wow, you came over to tell me where you took that amazing photo, that’s soooo lovely!
Yep I know where Hastings is though I’ve never been (have been to neighbouring Battle for the fire festival though). I’ve learned it’s always worth saying exactly where things are – I posted pics of Brighton beach recently without stating Brighton beach UK, and of course there is one in north America too, oops!
How lucky are you, love your blog:)
This is a very beautiful photo, and you describe a very beautiful place that you clearly love very much.
What a beautiful spot, I can see why you love being there. The sound of the ocean has got to be one of the most soothing, primal sounds in the world.
Thanks for joining skywatch!
Lovely colors.
They’re absolutely glowing.
Ah, the Isles of Scilly, one of my most favorite places in the world. My husband and I had our marriage blessing on St Martins! Thank you for a post that brings back many happy memories
Helloooo, it’s me again…had to come back and get another look at that bee-yu-tee-ful pic…and to invite you to come over when you have a chance and pick up an award I have for you!
