Derwentwater Sunset

It’s hard for me to believe that this sunset was little over a month ago – so much has happened since then, summer has all but arrived and I’ve been to so many other places both physically and mentally. It was the evening of our first full day of camping on the shore of Derwentwater, a day of speeding clouds and thick, blanketing drizzle of the kind that is utterly miserable everywhere else but familiar and atmospheric on the fells.
Just as we were starting to cook dinner back at the tent, the clouds parted and we were treated to a spectacular sunset that went on for an hour or more, the clouds that were passing across Catbells somehow still catching sunlight long after higher cloud had bled to grey.

That’s a beautiful photo with astonishing orange clouds! You’ve captured it beautifully. I’ve enjoyed looking round your blog – really like your layout and all the design features as well as your posts. I’ll come back soon!
Janice.
Thank you Janice… that photo of a Britain shaped cloud on your blog is telling me that I’ll be back over to visit you sometime too
This is so beautiful. I love silhouettes. The added color makes this outstanding.
Thanks for popping over Byrningbunny, you are too kind!
So gorgeous! The pinky-orange clouds hovering above the silhouette of hills is stunning…great capture, Bird!
Thank you Holly! Those clouds really were something in real life too, absolutely magical to see.
That’s a mighty pretty sunset. I’d like to be sitting next to a fire with loved ones while breathing in such a spectacle. Talk about my idea of heaven! Well, one of them, anyway…
It’s a gorgeous spot Svasti, no matter what the weather it’s a breathtaking sight (unless it’s too foggy to see much – does happen!) but that sunset was something else. I feel very lucky to have seen it while we cooked. That lakeside is one of my special places.
Lovely sunset, lucky you were there to snap it.
Thank you Glennis!
Hi there, I would love to see them but I can’t seem to get your photos to load! Thanks for visiting me. Let me know what I can do to see these.
Quietpaths, thank you for reporting the problem…exactly what do you see – are you getting anything at all? Is there just a blank space, or are you seeing a red square with a cross in it? I think the red square with a cross in it indicates a problem with the browser on your side (and I don’t understand enough to be able to help with that sadly) but if you are just getting nothing at all or the page just hangs I need to look into it. Possibly there was a lot of traffic when you looked and this slowed down my site (the hosting package I’m on could be better). I’ll see what I can do.
PS:- for anyone else reading out there… are you having a problem with seeing my images? If so let me know and tell me exactly what you see (or rather what you don’t see…)
Great photograph, lovely capture. It always seems that the best colours are after the rain, well if the sky ever clears. The colour of those clouds is very pretty.
I agree Chrissy, changeable weather makes for the best colours, the best skies, everything looks so fresh when the sun finally makes it through the clouds!
GREAT shot!
Thank you Lana!
A great and glorious shot. Breathtaking and inspiring. I’m grateful to you for having captured and shared it.
Thank you Lydia, I’m truly grateful for having seen it in real life.
Hi Bird ~ That’s a really beautiful photograph. You’re right – drizzle anywhere else is miserable…but the Lakes are different. I can remember when I was a Boy Scout, camping at Ullswater. Most of the days were misty and rainy…but it looked so beautiful and mysterious. And the smell of the water, the damp earth and the vegetation was wonderful.

There is nowhere else quite like the Lake District is there Henry? Rain just adds to the atmosphere.
