New Site Layout

Ch-ch-changes…

All my lovely regular readers will know that changes have been afoot for some time,  and at last I’m making good my promises, with a completely new home page layout and new look in general.  You all know that The Birds In The Meadow is more than a blog, although that is exactly how it started life over a year ago. Having my nature blog as the landing page has, as the site has grown, become confusing for people looking for the shop.  That’s where the new layout comes in – now it’s quick and easy to find your way to the Blog or Shop, and there’s even a new craft diary too!

The new home page layout serves up tasters as to what’s happening in either the Blog or Shop, and general site news (like this!) can be quickly accessed at the bottom of the page. Come here to shop? No problem, there are several links throughout that lead you to the goodies! Want to read the blogs? Click the link at the bottom of the “Blog” or “Craft” sections, and there you go!

The Blog is my favourite, I don’t want to see the other stuff!

No problem, on the home page, just click the “Read more from the Blog” link at the bottom of the Blog section, you’ll find it there. Only want to see the blog in future? Easy, just bookmark the blog bit and you can skip the home page!

Let me know what you think…

I’m still fine tuning so there will be a few things to fix up over the next few days, but let me know what you think – I hope the site will be so much easier for everyone to use now and I hope my lovely blog friends won’t be too scared away!

Cheers,

Bird xxx

…Yep, we’re closed. Hopefully the shop will be opening again by the weekend with new pretties to buy, but until then I’ll be staying under the hood tinkering. I’ll see you all once it’s done!

*EDIT* The shop has now re-opened and it’s better than ever! Hurrah!

Dorothy

…to the woman behind the curtain, she doesn’t know what she’s doing! Like Dorothy here I’ve been wondering lately what direction I’m supposed to be going in. And just as it is with the Wizard himself it’s all getting pretty flaky behind the curtain,  no matter how impressively overblown my last appearence here was. If you’ve never seen or read The Wizard of Oz you won’t have a clue what I’m talking about but that doesn’t matter, all you need to know is that I’m going to have to make some changes to the site. One of the reasons I’ve been so quiet is because I’ve been wrestling behind that stupid curtain trying to find a layout and navigation that suits.

I’m hoping to roll out the changes gradually and with any luck you’ll like them! I’m hoping the site will become more welcoming to people who land here looking for my shop, while at the same time not making the nature blog become too commercial looking. I’ve been agonising over this since ooohhh, forever, and I wish sometimes that I wasn’t so damn fastidious about  the whole thing. By the way, I’m going to start making an effort with replying to your comments again, and I’ve already made a start on the previous post.

So, what can you look forward to on the nature blog? Well, there are still some more tales to come from Wales and the Isle of Skye, and then there’s my more recent visit to the glorious but not-so-sunny Isles of Scilly. As we move on into Autumn and winter I’ll be writing about the changing seasons closer to home. Beyond that, who knows? It’s time to lace up my hiking boots and find a new adventure.

Visa Swap weekend – swap and enjoy!

Come and meet The Birds In The Meadow in London next weekend and get a whole new wardrobe for free! The Birds In The Meadow has been invited to be part of Visa Swap’s second clothes swapping event held in Covent garden Piazza on 19th & 20th July 10am – 6pm. How does it work? Donate clothes and accessories (in good clean wearable condition, of course). When you drop-off your pieces you will receive a special Visa Swap card loaded with points relevant to what you have dropped which you can use at the final event. That’s when the fun begins – you can then “buy” anything you like as long as you have enough points! There isn’t much time left to drop off your clothes, so if you want to take part you can donate at :-

  • 13th July 12 – 6pm No.1 The Piazza, Covent Garden, London, WC2
  • 13th July 2pm – 4pm Visa Swap Van Outside Hammersmith Traid, 119 Kings Street, Hammersmith, London
  • 18th July 12 – 4pm Final Drop-off at No.1 The Piazza, Covent Garden, London, WC2

You can only take part if you have donated so don’t forget to check your wardrobes and make the drop-offs! The swapping fun commences on the 19th-20th July.

  • Final swap week, No.1 The Piazza, Covent Garden, London, WC2 19th & 20th July 10am – 6pm

The Birds In The Meadow will be there along with a whole bunch of other up and coming designers at the Visa Swap Market, eager and ready to fulfill your environmentally friendly accessory needs. You don’t want to miss out on this, so get digging around in your wardrobes and come and join in!
