End of the rainbow, end of the road

About a fortnight ago my best beloved and I went to Whitby, where we camped on a rise above the town with our lovely friend A. It was a wonderful few days, and the changeable weather ensured spectacular skies – I have so many sky images from our visit that they will keep me in Skywatch Friday posts for months to come. Here, we had been walking from Robin Hood’s Bay to Whitby along the Cleveland Way National Trail, when the sky blackened. A rainbow glimmered faintly among the clouds as rain began to spit, while the sun shone on the crops that line the final mile or so into town. I’ll be posting more about this walk hopefully, there’s a lot more I’d love to show you.
I’ve had a lot of adventures this summer – many have not made it into this blog because they kept me a little too busy, but also, I’ve been deliberately keeping my time online to a minimum. Now, with autumn just around the corner I need to hunker down and concentrate on making new stock, and while that means spending a lot more time indoors near the computer, I’m just not sure that once autumn starts I’ll have the time to blog consistently. I’m not going to give up this blog, ominous though the title of the current post must seem (I chose it just because it fitted the picture, I didn’t intend the melancholy vibe I now see it lends). But perhaps the form will change, less writing and more images, or maybe just a monthly bulletin. I’ll always try to keep up with the wonderful bloggers I’ve met along the way, but please forgive me if my visits to your blogs are fewer.
For more beautiful and fascinating images of the sky around the world, visit Skywatch Friday!

Holding Post…
Could it really be that two months and indeed a whole season have passed me by since I last wrote here? This morning on the way to the shops I was jolted awake by yet another sign of time passing – the rowdy screeching of swifts overhead, the first I’ve heard this year. Despite the cold, it must be summer.
With every passing sign of spring – the first snowdrop, the first lesser celendine, the first wood anemone, bluebell, swallow sighting… I’ve been wanting to write and celebrate. There hasn’t been the time though, so even though I note these changes and absorb their import they have passed here in silence. It’s felt so wrong, and now that I’ve started writing again I can barely collect the discipline together to figure out what I have to say. There are the swallows, and bluebells, and Beltane woods, and a feeling of the headlong rush of life that has broken the banks of spring and flooded into summer already. I feel knocked over and swept away by the flow of it all of it all… and then I have to go and do the chores.

New Site Layout
Ch-ch-changes…
All my lovely regular readers will know that changes have been afoot for some time, and at last I’m making good my promises, with a completely new home page layout and new look in general. You all know that The Birds In The Meadow is more than a blog, although that is exactly how it started life over a year ago. Having my nature blog as the landing page has, as the site has grown, become confusing for people looking for the shop. That’s where the new layout comes in – now it’s quick and easy to find your way to the Blog or Shop, and there’s even a new craft diary too!
The new home page layout serves up tasters as to what’s happening in either the Blog or Shop, and general site news (like this!) can be quickly accessed at the bottom of the page. Come here to shop? No problem, there are several links throughout that lead you to the goodies! Want to read the blogs? Click the link at the bottom of the “Blog” or “Craft” sections, and there you go!
The Blog is my favourite, I don’t want to see the other stuff!
No problem, on the home page, just click the “Read more from the Blog” link at the bottom of the Blog section, you’ll find it there. Only want to see the blog in future? Easy, just bookmark the blog bit and you can skip the home page!
Let me know what you think…
I’m still fine tuning so there will be a few things to fix up over the next few days, but let me know what you think – I hope the site will be so much easier for everyone to use now and I hope my lovely blog friends won’t be too scared away!
Cheers,
Bird xxx
